Sore throats can cause a lot of discomfort and irritation and even make us feel unwell, even if there is no apparent cause for the pain and inflammation we are experiencing. Using a home remedy for a sore throat that has no apparent cause is often a better choice than bothering the doctor. Most remedies, but not all, for dealing with a sore throat involve gargling! Most people are probably aware of the benefits of gargling with hot salty water but, whilst beneficial, it does tastes extremely unpleasant.
Cider vinegar, with the addition of honey for adults, is a great home remedy used for a wide range of conditions. Using cider vinegar to gargle with, perhaps also adding some sage or turmeric to the warmed vinegar, is extremely soothing for a throat that feels inflamed and sore. Making a warm drink with one tablespoon of cider vinegar in a mug of warm water will have a similar effect the addition of some honey may add to the soothing qualities and make it more palatable. Raspberry leaf tea is useful in reducing fever when drunk as a tea but, when gargled, will also ease sore throat symptoms. Remember not to drink the liquid you have gargled with!
