Good salon equipment is the main thing that beginning owners do not know is very important or cannot afford at the time.  Long time salon owners could also not see the point, but the moment they try some out, they change their mind about what they really need.  The equipment will obviously offer more function, but it may be a key part of the design style as well.

Most equipment ranges by adjustment ability and extra features, so it is smart to consider various types of equipment before purchase.  The very first thing that needs to be upgraded is the styling chair, since it will be used the most out of anything.  A hydraulic lift is needed for certain guests, and provides the stylist with the right position and maneuverability for anyone that comes in.  In order to keep the customer still and let them relax, using a built-in head rest will provide more comfort whenever they choose to use it.  Although getting the most flexibility in a chair is a good idea, be sure the pieces are not of a low quality that will not tolerate daily use.

If the salon offers any types of hair treatments, providing a quality shampoo bowl will make it less complicated to do the job.  Although it may seem silly to buy a high quality bowl, they provide a couple of important features.  The primary key feature is a secure, waterproof cushion for the customer’s neck.  A bowl made from an easily cleaned material that does not stain and that has a strainer for preventing clogs is ideal.

Apart from salon chairs and shampoo bowls, some other non-essential items could need to be added or replaced.  Most salons overlook the importance of high quality waiting chairs and a reception desk, which is what customers are presented with when they initially walk in.  First impressions are important, and many will walk away if the salon furniture appears cheap, since they will think the service quality will be subpar as well.  There are often busy times in the salon business, so giving clients comfortable chairs to sit in while they wait will make them want to stay.

Mats are also good for keeping the store looking new.  Even if the store has a solid floor material that can be easily cleaned, it cannot be replaced after years of wear and tear just like a mat can.  Mats for salons are much more elaborate than standard plastic mats that are used for many other purposes.  Wood and marble both allow for great mats that can be maintained.  People are picky when it comes to who they trust with their styling, and if they see the shop itself being neglected, it is common for them to feel that they will be mistreated as well.
